GENERAL TRAINING
A Focused You
AM I A LIFESTYLE CLIENT?
Lifestyle clients fall into two common categories:

1.
Those who don't have an exact goal other than to make regular training part of a healthy lifestyle.
They find having a Personal Trainer who designs them a personalised program that is set to their fitness level and ability and then holds them accountable for doing the program each week is the difference between making fitness a habit and making excuses to miss another session.

2.
Those who are new to training or just not confident of how and what they should be doing. They find having personalised tuition coupled with encouragement and support helps them gain confidence and improves their likelihood of training more frequently.
HOW I WORK WITH YOU
'Personal' Training means 'personal'.
Below are the first three sessions of any new client's journey with me. Consultations are free so Session 1 only occurs when you have your movement screenings.
With all clients, I offer email and text support so if you need help outside of your session, just ask and I will be there to help however I can.
CONSULTATION
(FREE)
In our first meeting we sit down and discuss your goals, injuries, training history plus we what motivates you and what could prove a road-block in making training part of your lifestyle.
The chat is friendly and informal and you are under no obligation to sign anything at the end
SCREENINGS
SESSION 1
Your first paid session, we meet in the gym and I walk you through a number of different movements as well as flexibility tests to see what exercises you will be able to do and which will need work before we start loading you with them.
This allows me to use your consultation notes and your screening notes to design something that is based around you.
TRAINING
SESSION 2
Session 2 is your first 'proper' training session.
Having designed you a program, we will use this session to run through it together to ensure you understand what you need to do.
Any exercises you forget, just ask and I will send you a personal video over WhatsApp talking you through the key points whilst demoing the exercise.
BORED OF TRAINING?
Everyone gets bored of training at some point. You are only human after all.
The key is not to let the drop in motivation lead to a lapse in training.

That is where having someone there with you to ensure you push through these lulls is a lifeline.

Below are the typical three ways I help clients stick with their training when motivation has gone walkabouts:
STAY MOTIVATED
I train a lot of clients with different goals and targets.
Targets drive us and keep us focused. So it is of no surprise that those who find it the hardest to stay motivated are the 'Lifestyle' gym goers whose goal is to improve their health and fitness as part of a healthy life.
There is no deadline, their goal is just to keep turning up and training reaping the rewards of their commitment of regular exercise.

With Lifestyle Clients I usually have three methods to help them stay focused:

1. MINI TARGETS
Mini targets are little goals that provide focus and show progression.

2. MAKE IT FUN
If someone is not keen on targets and simply wants to turn up, take their mind off of their day to day stresses, we can make training more fun. Have a good chat, put the world to rights whilst I subtly adapt your training to ensure you are progressing.

3. TRAIN WITH A FRIEND
We know training with a friend improves adherence to training so why not 'buddy up' with a friend and train together?

MINI TARGETS
Just because you don't have an over-arching fitness goal, doesn't mean we can't create a goal for you.

A goal simply means setting a target to get better at. Goals could include:
Getting faster at a set distance run or row
Hitting a specific weight to life
Improving the quality of the depth of a squat
Improving your knowledge so you gain confidence when training on your own

The first three targets are outcome targets and show improvements in fitness or flexibility. These are great to encourage you to focus when you are in the gym or training on your own.

The last target is an educational process target. Understanding what you are doing improves self confidence no end and has been shown to improve adherence to training. So if you are nervous about the gym, this may be your first goal.
MAKE IT FUN
You may not want to focus on pushing your limits (be they knowledge or fitness). Â Your life may be stressful and your time training is your quality time away from everything else. Â The last thing you want is assessing whether you are achieving yet another target.
If this is you, leave your training design up to me and we will work you to a moderate intensity but leave you with enough energy to still get everything else done post session. Â We will focus on making your training interesting and as fun as possible so that for an hour at least, you get some YOU time.
TRAIN WITH A BUDDY
Some people feel more confident training with a friend, others just find it more interesting. Training with a buddy has been proven to improve the chances of you sticking to a training plan so if you know you may struggle to train if left to your won devices, I can train you and a friend together.
Yes, training will be a little more generic but if your goal is to stay motivated, the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.

Added, training in pairs is slightly cheaper for each person too!
You won’t meet a more knowledgeable and friendly trainer. My routines are 100% personal to me and as a result, the aches and pains I’ve suffered for years have now completely gone. He is one in a million!
