5 Techniques to Avoid Impulsive Snacking Over Christmas

Writer's picture: Day BintDay Bint

Christmas naturally brings increases in temptation for snacking between meals.

For one, you are at home for a longer period than normal. Secondly, most families stock up on increased amounts of alcohol, nuts, chocolates, and 'treats', (mince pies, cheesy biscuits etc), that most of us consume between our main meals.

Unless you have a specific plan, chances are you will over consume high calorific snacks over the week between Christmas and the New year.

Over consumption of sugary and fatty snacks seldom make Christmas a happier experience and often, people end up regretting the increased weight on the scales at the beginning of January.

It's no surprise that many people's New year's Resolution is weight loss.

Below are 5 strategies I have used with clients to avoid regretting over-consumption at Christmas.

Whichever strategy you choose, the critical ingredient is desire. You have to WANT to not overly indulge and be willing to set a reminder each morning to remind you what your goal for that day is.

Seldom does and all or nothing strategy work. Therefore, going cold turkey, (pardon the pun), on 'treats' usually does nothing but make you feel miserable and that you are missing out.

These techniques are there to give you a daily structure and to reduce rather than eliminate over-consumption.

Most of all, have a lovely Christmas and a more prosperous and healthy 2021!
