And why you may have given up in the past...
The very first part of achieving a goal is setting it.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people skip this phase and use the wing and a prayer 'technique' of trying to achieve their goal.
This is akin to starting out on a journey and not bothering with the destination postcode or a sat nav and instead choosing 'To see how it goes'.
The chances of you getting to your destination without getting completely lost or never making it and having to give up are more than high.
So why embark on your nutritional or fitness goals using this technique?
You can actually tell when someone definitely won't achieve their goal before they even start.
That's not the same as knowing if someone WILL achieve their goal. That's almost impossible to tell
There is an art to effective goal setting but the good news is, it's not hard to master. Below are two videos that gives a simple explanation as to how to set out achieving a goal. Of course there is more to it that just planning. The doing is the hard part but if you don't plan, you definitely won't do...or at least not for long anyway. Until your motivation or willpower runs out, which for most people is between a few days and a month.

Most people don't want to take small steps. They want to make quick progress by taking giant steps and getting there quicker.
We don't think achieving goals can be as simple as making a little bit of progress each day. So we look for ways of making a lot of progress each day and then end up making none.
I love the drawing below which perfectly illustrates the concept in my video:
